evaluation 7, looking back at your preliminary task(the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

At the beginning of the year we were ask to film a preliminary task, on basic normal camera using adobe premier which is a basic editing program. we had to use skills such as 180 degree rule and shot revers shot, and as you can see this in our final clip. we then only had the choice of simple editing applications this however was alot different when we had to film our horror film. when filming our horror film we was very fortunate to be able to use a HD camera and then afterwards we were aloud to edit on the brand new Apple Mac-Books this was a new level in technology for me because i had never used this before and as you can tell from our prelim task to our finale horror film that alot has change. At first we only knew basic skills on a program called finale cut, but as time past we gradually began to understand how the system worked therefore allowing us to make our basic ideas into a specticle for the eyes of the veiwers. The Macs gave us alot more options for transitions which once again made our film alot better compared to adobe premier which has very minimal transition options which i didnt feel was very good. The HD cameras alowed us to get a much clearer image when filming and made our final edition look far superior to others who had previously used the normal basic cameras. The prelim task was far easier but seeing the finale edition of our horror film made all the hard work worth the wait. -  This is two pictures from my horror film which were filmed on the hd cameras and wich were eddited on the Macs.
Here is a picture from my preliminary task with my editing and my basic footage from the normal camera.

evaluation activity 6, what have you learnt about technology from process of constructing this product.

Here as you can see is myself using a program called Blogger which enabled us to write down everything we had done in and out of lessons. Being on our media accounts it enabled us to access such websites such as you tube and other giving information websites. which enabled us to gain further knowledge on genre and what was needed to create a good horror film.
Here is a picture of my Blogger, this program is very good as it enabled us to write down all work we had done in and out of lessons keeping notes in order of date. I had never before used this program and at first it seem difficult but as time passed i began to understand the system and it was very simple after a while.

Here is a picture of me using the Apple Mac-Books which are an amazing piece of equipment but were a problem at the beginning as we do not have a clue on how to use them but once again as time past i began to understand the system and this piece of technology really helped in the final making to our film. Because of its vast amounts of animations and editing techniques.
Here is me once again using the Apple Mac-Book but this time i am using a system called Finale Cut which enabled us to edit our film, just to make it that little bit more special. It had many animations that we could use and made it very easy for us to create something good into something amazing.
Here is myself using the HD camera on a tripod. We felt that using this camera was very simple and efficient, it aloud us to capture those key moments within our film that take it to the next level in movie making. having used a normal camera before i could immediately notice a difference but they were very similar in how to use them, the only difference was that we had to upload them onto the Apple Mac-Books instead of the Pc's.
Here is the HD camera that we used to film our whole film.
Here is the very helpful tripod in which we used. this enabled us to get a very still shot making it more professional and giving us a better finale product.

Google was the main search engine that we used within all our research. This enabled us to find websites that contained copy right free music that we could use on our films. It also gave us 100's of other websites that we used for helpful information on other horror films, so that we had a good idea on what is good to use in a horror film.

Youtube was a massive help when creating our film because it gave us that stepping stone to view parts of other successful films, and to see what made their movies so famous in the movie making industry.

Digital voice recorder which we used  to record our voice overs for our film.

Evaluation activity 4, who would be the audience for your media product?

Our age for target audience was between 16 - 24 males and females. the category we aimed at would be D we would aim all the classes available. we didn't have a specific race that we aimed at. Our film contained 1 suspected antagonist we used an antagonist because we felt that horror created by the character would affect the audience efficiently.

Here is what we believe to be a typical horror audience whom search for that latest scary chill. they would tend not to watch any kind of romantics or Rom Com's, but perhaps watch some action films, but would mainly stick to horror. They would tend to dress in dark clothing which perhaps hides inner fear in which the person cannot realise and that's why they choose to watch other horror films to perhaps settle their own nerves.

I believe that the stereotypical horror audience would perhaps sway towards the heavy metal genre of music because this fuels their addiction towards the thrilling side of life. i also believe that they would mostly shop online to avoid the public eye, and perhaps torment from public enemies. i also reckon that a favourite TV program of an typical horror audience would still breach the horror genre in which that gore and darkness lurks within these programmes.

Also we wanted the audience to belive that everything going on in the film could be related back to a true strory, because in life the bully has normally been bullied by someone bigger that him/her. and this is what we intended on going for because our 'killer' was hurt when he was a child and this is why he strikes back with revenge. We wanted the audience to relate to the film, due to that fact that perhaps a viwer may know of someone who's life story links to the story line of our film.

Value within our film are crucial to success towards the final edition because we wanted the audience to be scared from the word go and thats what our main value.

evaluation 3, what kind of media institution might distribute your media

http://youtu.be/N22itbfvbSo

Here is a link to my final copy of my film with the voice over. We had problems with getting the video onto my Blog thats why we decided to put it on Youtube therefore making it easier for both me and you.

evaluation task 2, how does your media product represent particular social groups.

evaluation task 2
We decided to relate our film to the scene in silence of the lambs were there is a close up on Anthony Hopkins. The daunting stair connotes the horror perfectly as it suggest they are looking straight into your eyes. A chilling feel to the scenario gets added. and this is exactly what we wanted.

Similarities
  • The daunting stair which literally stairs into your soul, a chilling feel and gives you a sense of uncomfortableness just like you get when you believe that someone is looking at you from across the room, just for an example i might add.
  • The desire to become all powerful towards your foes or even just members of society, these two heartless killers have no sense of emottive value towards any man or any women and this is why i belive they are so alike.
Differences
  • These two as you can probably tell are completely at the other end of the age scale towards each other. But however this doesnt change the fact that they both seek for that buzz from causing fear towards others.
  • Our killer from our film hates to show his face whether this is due to a horrible disfigament, you'll have to watch the film but i bring this point up because as you can see anthony hopkins in the silence of the lambs he really doesnt care wether you see his face or not because he will never stop what he does untill his heart stops beating.

evaluation activity 1 in what ways does your media product ues, develope, or challenge forms and conventions of a real media production?

in picture 1you can see our title which is called reminescence which difines towards memories, and how memories can affect a certain persons brain and decide on the way they act, this is our stroy line and thats why we belive Reminiscence is a great chose of title for our film.

picture 2 shows our main setting which is the house in the background, this is where the body was found brutally murdered.

picture 3 shows an over view of the props we used in our film. knives were the main prop as we felt this was the most steriotypical weapon used in horror, and we also thought this connotes horror in the best way.

picture 4 shows just a small part of our edditing that we used in our film, and this type of eddited font that we decided to use worked well we thought becuase it slightly resembled the small Vs large scenarios that are always in horror films.

picture 5 is our title once again but the main reason this picture is being shown is so that the font and background can be shown to its full capacity. we felt the the white writting contrasted well with the black background because we felt it resembled a good Vs evil in white and black.

picture 6 is the start of our phone call which we decided on keeping the same font with the same colour and same background we felt this kept a simple but effective reccurance within our film.

picture 7 is the beggining to our opening scene which is a tragic news report. as you can see we use words such as 'grusome' and 'murder' which insinuates that would ever has happened within the crime scene is very horrific and this is what we want the audience to think.

picture 8 is the first sighting of our main character who due to his appearance and setting around him makes him look out to be mysterious and evil looking. when watching our film you never really see our characters face and this is what we intended on because it allows the audience to think, when watching the film they have suspicions on who this masked figure is.

picture 9 contains our first animation which is the illuminating candles which we feel adds
anguish and suspence as it almost seems that the setting is being set on fire. we feel that this increase the tension and keeps the audience on edge but also wanting to continue on watching our film.

1.

certificate

When creating our film we intended on aiming our piece to 15- 24 year old's as we felt this was the suitable age group suited for our film. We also felt that this age group tended to go to the cinema more frequently then others and this is another reason why we felt that 15 - 24 year old were the best suited candidates. Because of our chosen age group we had the choice of selecting a 15 age certificate or an 18. So we decided to research both disadvantages and advantages for both. With hard work and late nights we finally decided to go with a 15 age certificate. Although within a 15 aged certificate film you cannot use foul language or scenes of graphic gore. but we didn't feel that you always needed these things to create a good horror film. See even with a 15 you can still have violence and gore you just need to moderate it, to know how much to put in and when to do it.

shot list

Within our film we used many different camera shots to obtain those perfect angles within our setting. we belive that the ones we chose were the best suted for the scenario in hand, here is a list of the specific camera shots we used.
  • Close up
  • Mid shots
  • Established shots
  • Shot reverse shot
  • Extreme close up
  • Long shot
  • High angle shot

title

When attempting to find a good title for our film we hit many dead ends so we decided to ask freinds and family to see what they thought, and the same answers came back. Which were to have a single word title to add effect, with one significant title. so we decided to keep to this system and we came up witha few ideas of what we could call it and these are...

-  Memories 25/12/01
- Forgotten 25/12/01
- Imortal 25/12/01
- Reminisance 25/12/01

After many dicussions we decided that Reminiscence was easily the best title to fit our film, so thats what we decided to go for, and we also added a date to it to add a symbolic effect which is used within the film also for the viwers to keep an eye on. here is the finished product, we hope you like it.

scheduling

We then decided to sit down and create a schedule of when we would be filming shots and editing our film, we planned to use 3 days to film, one day for the title sequence which is around 50 seconds of footage, another day for the opening sequence. we then decided to have just an extra day to be able to go back and get any extra shots that we felt we needed. next we needed to edit and we decided that if we could get it done in one day would be fantastic but we then thought realistically and decided to give ourselves 2 days to finish the editing.

plot

We thought that if our 2 minute short section was to be as successful as it could be then we would need to develop a plotline for a full sized movie so that we know exactly what needs to be achieved in this opening section that we are to produce.
Killer Haunted by siblings death on there birthday, feels anger towards the role parents played in this. After killing own parents develops a taste for murder and decides to punish those he deems to be incompetent parents.
(These ideas will be pursued in the title sequence of the clip)

Every year on the month leading up to the deceased siblings birthday, murders take place on parents with children aged 6-11. The victims body is then adorned with a doll as a reminder of the dead sibling. In order to test the remaining parents love for their child the killer leaves a clue to the childs location.

Latest Killing occurs on the street of a teenage babysitters house, the concerned friends of this teenager proceed to ring them in order to confirm their safety. They then travel to the babysitters house for a houseparty. During the party, the child is left unattended and the killer (a guest at the party) snatches the child and slaughters the majority of the household.

Killer leaves an adress for the survivors to follow if they want the child back, it is revealed that at each location a sacrifice must be made for the next location to be revealed. They must reach the final trial by midnight if the child is to live.

props

in our film certain props will be used to add intensity towards the completion of our final product, these include:
  • dolls- the killer will be seen with this prop as we are trying to put a sycotic feel into this haunting equation.
  • tools- we have added these to connote a vicious approach towards the killers habbits.
  • telephone- this will be used to carry a phone call between possiblibe victims.
  • gloves- the killer will use gloves to make him more hidden and mysterious.
  • police tape- to go around the crime scene.
  • microphone- for the news reporter.
  • tv- as they will be watching this on the news.
  • calender- for the title sequence shot.
  • picture/picture frame-for the title sequence shot.
  • birthday cake-for the title sequence shot.
  • candles-for the shed to light it up and give it a paranormal like touch.
  • birthday card-for the title sequence shot.

script

scene 1 - A child's plea(Scene begins with a long shot of a mother and child, they are standing near a road and the child is being disciplined by the mother, the child is holding a red balloon)

Mother - (angrily) Look at me when I'm talking to you!

Child - (defiantly) I am!

Mother - Don't you backchat me!

Child - I'm nooooooot!

(Shot changes to a high angle shot with a close up of a hand grasping a doll, looking down upon the pair from a window.)

Mother - (threatening) I've had enough of you! You're grounded, you just wait until I tell your dad!

(Low angle shot of the rising red balloon that the child has let go of in a panic)

Child - (afraid) No! Please don't tell dad! I'm sorry!

Scene 2 - Crime Scene

(Initial long shot of news reporter in front of a crime scene)

Reporter - (Calm with an undertone of fear) Police tonight launched a multiple murder enquiry after the    gruesome discovery of a mutilated body around 7pm yesterday on Shakespeare Road.

(Low angle mid shot of covered body being removed from the scene)

Reporter - (freaked out) It is believed to be the fifth in a series of killings where the body is left... with a doll?

(Close up of doll)

(Transition to a zoom out shot of two people watching the report)

Reporter - (Regaining composure) Police still have no leads on the case and are appealing for witnesses. Just when will it end?

(Couple exchange worried looks on the sofa)

Josh - Did you hear that? That's the road Shane lives on! (anxious)

Kelly - (comforting) Maybe you should call Shane, just to make sure he's alright?

Josh - (picks up phone) OK, you're right, I'll call him.

(cut to a close up of side table/chest of drawers type object with phone vibrating on top)

(Hand suddenly jumps on phone)

Josh - (Hesitantly) Hello? (pause) Shane?

(unknown individual brings phone closer to face, hand has a res substance over it in parts, shot cuts out anything above the top lip)

Shane - (sinister voice) Shane's not here right now.

Josh- (Scared and worried, looks over to Kelly for support) Who is this? Where's Shane?!

Shane - (Still sinister) He's Dead! And I'm coming for you next...Josh.

Josh - (Increasingly scared) This isn't funny, who is this? How do you know my name!?

(Shows full face)

Shane - (laughing) Just messing with you, it's Shane.

Josh - (relieved yet angry) Don't do that ever again!...you had me worried.

(Shane looks out of window onto the crime scene)

Shane - (smugly) Sorry mate, it had to be done.

this was our original idea of a script however the words of this could change slightly when we are filming the scenes because we may have a change in ideas if this doesnt work
